Rebuilding the ruins

🧱 Rebuilding the Ruins

Devotional Thought from the Book of Ezra

Scripture Focus:

“Though we are slaves, our God has not forsaken us in our bondage. He has shown us kindness... to revive us, to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins.”
— Ezra 9:9 (NIV)

🌿 Devotional

The book of Ezra opens with the people of God returning from exile—coming back to a land of ashes, ruins, and forgotten dreams. Their temple was destroyed, their homeland was broken, and their hearts had grown weary. Yet God, in His great mercy, moved the heart of a foreign king and opened the door for restoration.

You may be in a season that feels the same.

Maybe your heart has grown cold. Maybe your purpose feels distant. Maybe your family, your faith, or your dreams look like a pile of broken stones.

But here’s the hope of Ezra:

God rebuilds what’s been ruined.
He revives what feels dead. He restores what the enemy tried to destroy.

And the rebuilding doesn’t begin with walls—it begins with the heart.

Ezra was not a soldier. He was a scribe, a teacher of the Word. He didn’t rebuild with brute strength. He rebuilt through humility, prayer, and truth. And when he saw the sin and brokenness of the people, he didn’t point fingers—he fell on his knees.

If you feel like your life is scattered or spiritually dry, hear this:
God has not forsaken you. He still restores. He still revives. He’s still the Master Builder.

Let Him begin the work in you.

🙏 Prayer

Father, thank You for never giving up on me. Even when I feel distant or broken, You are close. Rebuild the areas of my life that have fallen apart. Heal what hurts. Purify my heart and guide me in Your truth. I trust You to finish the work You’ve begun in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
