🕊️Skilled in Everything But Surrender

Scripture: “How skilled you are at pursuing love! Even the worst of women can learn from your ways.” — Jeremiah 2:33 (NIV)

🔎 Devotion:

Israel had not just forgotten God—they had become experts at replacing Him. In Jeremiah 2:33, God isn’t flattering His people. He’s grieving over their creativity in rebellion, their tireless energy poured into chasing after everything but Him. He says, “Even the worst of women can learn from your ways,” not to shame, but to wake them up.

And now, centuries later, we’re not much different.

Today, we chase digital affection, constantly checking likes and comments. We follow ministers more than we follow Christ—hungering for their words but not opening our Bibles. We binge-watch shows for hours, dive into gaming marathons, scroll endlessly, work endlessly, stay busy—anything to numb the need for God.

We’ve become skilled at distraction.

But what if God is calling us back? What if He’s saying, “Stop running. Come home.”

Yesterday, I heard the word “recompense” as I awoke from sleeping.

Recompense means repayment or compensation—whether of blessing or consequence. And Scripture says God is the one who brings recompense (Isaiah 35:4; Revelation 22:12).

When we sow disobedience, we reap destruction. But when we repent and return—through the blood of Jesus—He becomes our recompense. What we deserve, He took. What He deserves, He gives to us.

There is still time. Repentance is not shame; it’s mercy. It’s not about guilt; it’s about grace. Jesus shed His blood not just to forgive our wandering—but to bring us back.

Let today be your turning point. Don’t wait until everything is broken to finally run to Him.

🙏 Prayer:

Father,
I confess that I have placed so many things before You. I’ve chased the approval of people, numbed myself with entertainment, and looked to everything but You to fill my soul.
Forgive me. I don’t want to be skilled in distraction—I want to be devoted in love.
Jesus, thank You for being my recompense. You took my judgment and gave me mercy.
Holy Spirit, draw me back. Teach me to seek You first, to love You most, and to walk in daily repentance.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

đź’ Reflection:

  • What are the things that compete for your time, affection, and energy more than God?

  • What would it look like for you to return to Jesus today—not just in word, but in practice?

  • What kind of “recompense” are you sowing with your daily choices—and what do you truly desire to reap?
