new every morning
💔 WHEN IT FEELS LIKE GOD IS FAR AWAY
There are moments in life when pain feels like a constant companion. When prayers go unanswered. When we wonder, “Where is God in this?” Lamentations 3 begins in that place—a dark, lonely valley of suffering. The writer feels afflicted, isolated, and overwhelmed. He even says, “He shut out my prayer” (v.8).
Have you ever felt like that? Like your cries were bouncing off the ceiling? Like hope was a memory, not a reality?
You’re not alone. God saw fit to include these raw, honest emotions in Scripture because He knows the weight of human sorrow. And He invites us to bring it all to Him—unfiltered.
🌤 But This I Call to Mind…
Then, something shifts in verse 21:
“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope…”
Even in the middle of grief, the writer makes a choice—to remember God’s character.
He remembers that:
God’s love never ceases
His mercy is fresh every morning
He is faithful, even when we are not
This is not blind optimism. This is faith in the face of pain. It’s the act of anchoring your heart in truth when your world feels like it’s falling apart.
🕊 Hope Isn’t a Feeling—It’s a Focus
Hope doesn’t always feel warm or easy. But hope is a decision to trust God’s character above your current chaos. The same God who brought Israel through exile is the same God who walks with you today.
God’s mercy is not just a theory—it’s renewed daily. That means:
Yesterday’s failure doesn’t define today.
Your dry season isn’t permanent.
Your tears are seen, and they are not wasted.
🙏 Prayer
Lord,
I confess that I don’t always feel Your presence. Out of fear, I often try to take control of the things around me. At times, I feel forgotten, overwhelmed, and unheard. But today, I choose to remember what is true: You are merciful. You are faithful. And Your love for me never fails. I am not alone—You are with me, and You are always working on my behalf. Open my eyes to see Your new mercies today. Help me to trust that You are at work, even when I don’t understand, even when the path ahead is unclear. I put my trust in You, Lord, and I thank You for all that You are doing in my life. Amen.
🪻 Reflect:
What "truth" can you call to mind today, even in hardship?
How can you remind yourself of God’s faithfulness each morning?
Is there someone in your life who needs to hear about His mercy today?
