🕊️ Create Space: Staying Close to God in a Crowded Life

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8

We live in a world that pulls at us from every angle. Our days are filled with responsibilities, noise, distractions, and demands — and yet, our deepest need is to stay close to God. Not out of duty, but because our hearts were made for Him.

Staying close to God doesn’t require perfection, long hours, or a flawless routine. It requires space — intentional, sacred space in your life and heart.

This devotional is here to help you make that space through thanksgiving, prayer, Scripture, and small daily choices.

🌾 1. Make Space Through Thanksgiving

Gratitude is the gateway to God’s presence. When we give thanks, we turn our eyes from what's missing to what He's already done.

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.” – Psalm 100:4

Try this:

  • Start your morning by saying three things you’re thankful for — before you check your phone, before you speak to anyone.

  • Write them down if you can. This helps you slow down and acknowledge His goodness.

  • Speak them out loud. Let your home be filled with reminders of what God has already done.

Even in sorrow or stress, there’s always something to thank Him for. Gratitude doesn’t ignore pain — it just reminds us who’s still holding us through it.

🙏 2. Make Space Through Prayer

Prayer is not a performance — it’s a conversation. A soul-to-Spirit connection.

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18

You don’t have to use fancy words. You don’t have to get it all right. Just talk to Him.

Simple prayer ideas:

  • “Jesus, I need You today.”

  • “God, thank You for this breath, this home, this moment.”

  • “Father, I’m scared. Be near to me.”

  • “Holy Spirit, help me see what You’re doing today.”

Prayer invites God into the ordinary — your chores, your coffee, your commutes. The more we talk to Him, the more we sense His nearness.

📖 3. Make Space Through Scripture

The Word of God is your anchor in a chaotic world. It steadies you, teaches you, and reminds you who you are and who He is.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105

But if you struggle to remember Scripture — you’re not alone. Many of us do. That’s why I created Anchor Verse Cards — 30 powerful, easy-to-memorize scriptures paired with real-life moments like brushing your teeth, drinking coffee, or leaving the house.

Place these cards around your home — let the Word meet you in your everyday life. You don’t need to memorize everything to start. You just need to carry one truth at a time.

💛 4. Make Space by Welcoming Him In

Above all, staying close to God is about relationship, not religion. He’s not waiting for a perfect routine — He’s waiting for your heart.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock…” – Revelation 3:20

Let your home be filled with small invitations:

  • Light a candle and whisper thanks.

  • Sit in stillness with a verse card in hand.

  • Put on worship music while you work.

  • Say His name out loud when you feel alone.

When you make space, even in the smallest ways — you’ll find He’s already near.
